“How often do you go out of your way to tell someone that you appreciate them or their service? By ‘out of your way’ I mean do you tell your server in the café what a great job they are doing – to their face? Do you fill in Feedback Forms and send them off, in Appreciation of service? Do you pop a note of thanks into the post?

 Expressing Appreciation is about going that Extra Step. It’s MORE than a ‘thank you’ in passing. It’s MORE than a comment to your friend about how fabulous the service you experienced was. It’s more than just leaving a gratuity.

Week 1 October 1-7: Say Thank You … for Everything

  • Say “Thank You” to the people in your house – often.
  • Leave a Note of Thanks when you make an online order.
  • Write a Letter to someone you don’t like and thank them for all the learning they have enabled you to experience (you don’t have to post it!).
  • Thank your kids or your parents or your best friends for little things that you don’t normally acknowledge.

Week 2 October 8-14: Future Self

Imagine yourself at a Future time. What do you look like? What are you doing? What have you achieved? What is making you Smile?

  • Express Appreciation for your health and wellbeing. What could you say, to your Future Self?
  • Express Appreciation for YOU, now, because the You of here and now is the person who brought your Future Self the success and JOY she/he/they are experiencing.
  • Tell the Universe how Grateful you are for all the little and big things that make your Future Self Smile.

Imagine your Future Self (the one you imagined above). YOU created this person! Take a few minutes to acknowledge that.

Week 3 October 15- 21: JOY Essence

  • You Are Amazing! Make a List of all the things you Appreciate about yourself.
  • Read your List of Things You Appreciate about yourself, every day, this week.
  • Who has been a guiding force or helped you become who you are, today? Send them a mental and heartfelt acknowledgement of how much you appreciate them. Alternatively, write a letter to them, in your journal.

Week 4 October 22-28: Snuggle Up to your Insecurities/JOY Bubbles

  • Think about all the tools and strategies you use when you are feeling below par or anxious. Feel into them. Now, give yourself a Pat On The Back. Well done, You! You are aware of what you need when you are feeling down.
  • You are rocking this Life gig! Tell yourself that, every day (even when you aren’t feeling it)!
  • Take some time out to Indulge what Brings You JOY. Be fully in the moment. Feel the JOY and appreciate it.
  • Express Appreciation to those who help you: health care professionals, car service people, first responders etc. Send them a thought or tell them you appreciate them when you see them or send them a gratitude gift.

Wrap up the month with noticing how other people Express Appreciation. Can you use some of those ideas? If there was just One Person that you could Express Appreciation to – that you wouldn’t normally – who would that be? What would you say to them if you could? Now, take action and tell/show them.
